Saugerties is well country. Outside the village, most homes draw from a private bedrock well, and the plumbing problems here start at the pump and the pressure tank before they ever reach a faucet.
A well pump that quits does not always quit cleanly. Sometimes the pressure just fades over a week, sometimes the breaker trips every few days, and sometimes there is a bang and nothing. The pressure tank is the other half of that system: a waterlogged tank makes the pump short-cycle until it dies. We test the tank and the switch before condemning a pump, because replacing a pump when the tank was the fault is an expensive way to learn the difference.
Bedrock wells in this area are commonly hard and often carry iron. That shows up as scale in the water heater, spotty glassware, soap that will not lather, and a water heater that fails years before it should. None of that is a plumbing failure yet. It is the slow wear that turns into one.

Property Assessment in SaugertiesIf it cannot wait until morning, call. A dispatcher answers and gives you a real arrival window.
Not necessarily. A failed pressure tank, a bad pressure switch or a leak in the drop pipe will all make a healthy pump run continuously. Running constantly is the symptom; the cause has to be tested. Left alone it will take the pump out too.
A submersible pump typically gives ten to fifteen years, and short-cycling is what shortens that. If your tank is waterlogged, the pump is starting every time a tap opens, and that is what kills it early.
